A Calcasieu school resource officer, 57, was fired and arrested after an investigation found that he had “multiple sexually inappropriate conversations” with youth. The former school resource officer was booked into jail on four counts of indecent behavior with juveniles.

Strong Vincent Middle School was placed on a “soft lockdown” after a fight broke out in the cafeteria. Police officers used pepper spray on students and removed several students from the school. The incident is currently under investigation.

On Feb. 16, 2024, at Rio Grande High School, a 14-year-old autistic student was pepper-sprayed by the Albuquerque Public School police. The officer who wrote the incident report claims that the student was yelling profanities after his PE teacher instructed him to leave class. The student then allegedly lunged at the APS officer, who responded by pepper-spraying the student. The student ended up receiving a three-day suspension, more than a week after the incident, and the APS officer who pepper-sprayed him was placed on leave.

Madera Police arrested a 21-year-old high school campus safety officer, who now faces felony charges of unlawful sex with a 16-year-old minor. Madera police became aware of the alleged relationship through other students who discussed the safety officer and the 16-year-old student on social media.

A school resource officer in Groton, Massachusetts, has been fired after an investigation discovered he was harassing students and staff, including asking one student if she wanted to come to his house to have sex. The SRO started working for the public high school in 2018 and was also a liaison to Lawrence Academy. He was fired after a comprehensive investigation into reports of inappropriate conduct.

There was a shooting involving police officers and a 16-year-old student at the Pioneer Technology and Arts Academy on Feb. 19, 2024. A school administrator called Mesquite Police at 8:49 a.m. and claimed a student entered her office with a gun. Once the Mesquite Police arrived, they were engaged in a discussion with the student that quickly devolved and ended up in 19 shots being fired and the student’s leg being injured.

A school resource officer in Marianna, Arkansas, pepper sprayed students to break up a fight between several students in the cafeteria at Lee High School. The officer claimed that she couldn’t reach the fight, so she deployed her pepper spray to clear the crowd. Approximately 40-50 students were reportedly affected by the spray. Marianna police and Lee County deputies stated the resource officer acted appropriately and would not be disciplined.

A 14-year-old girl was body-slammed by a school resource officer during school dismissal at Myrtle Grove Elementary School in Miami-Dade County, FL. The officer claims that the 14-year-old girl told the officer to not touch her, pushed him away, and pulled her arms away from him. The adult police officer then body-slammed her to the ground. The student was taken to a juvenile detention center, held for six hours, and received no medical treatment for her injuries, which included a separated shoulder and injuries to her thumb, back, and neck.

An Abington Township police officer was sentenced to 11 to 23 months in prison and seven years of probation for engaging in a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student at the school where he is a school resource officer. After allegations were made, the authorities monitored a consensual phone call between the girl and the officer where he acknowledged the two were engaged in a sexual relationship.  The charges included institutional sexual assault, endangering the welfare of children, and corruption of minors.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s deputy who was a school resource officer at Elkhorn High School has been charged with a third-degree sexual assault misdemeanor after being accused of “inappropriate conduct” with a 16-year-old. He was placed on administrative leave earlier in February when the school district became aware of the allegations.
