A former Ohio school resource officer was sentenced to 90 days in jail for sending sexual messages and a sexually graphic photo to a teenage student in 2020. The sentence also includes two years of probation, restitution of $1,000 for the victim, and 250 hours of community service, and bars him from working as a police officer in Ohio.

A school resource officer was charged with sexual assault of a child by a school staff person or a person who works or volunteers with children. The assault by the SRO was on a high school student that attended Sun Prairie High School at the time the officer was working there. Freedom, Inc., a leading community organization dedicated to ending police violence, released a statement expressing their outrage and demanding immediate action.

A 10-year-old Black girl was arrested with excessive force by police after a “run of the mill” dispute amongst classmates escalated when a parent called the school and demanded the girl’s arrest. According to the ACLU, the girl allegedly participated in drawing an unfavorable image of another student who had been bullying her and was unjustly arrested and traumatized as a result.

November 2020

A school resource officer at Mt. Ararat High School pled guilty to unlawfully sexually touching a female student in November 2020. The assaulter had worked as a school resource officer in both the middle and high school for more than 5 years at the time of the assault. He was sentenced to seven days in jail.

The mother of a 4-year-old student with disabilities in Chicago Public Schools has sued the Board of Education alleges in a federal lawsuit that the security guard at John T. McCutcheon Elementary School in Uptown dragged her son down a hallway March 2, inflicting “severe emotional distress” on him in an incident she said she didn’t learn about for weeks.

A police officer chastised, detained, and handcuffed a 5-year-old Black boy who wandered off campus. When found, the officer placed the child in the back of the police car after an attempt to walk him back to school. While crying the boy was taken to the school’s office where the officer referred to the boy as “a violent little thing” and a “beast.” Another officer told the 5-year-old, “I hope your mama lets me beat you.”
